The Doniphan Fall Festival is held annually the first Saturday in October. Activities include a noon meal, parade, kid’s carnival, games, hamburger stand, and evening program. Doniphan is host to the Nebraska Cornhusker Handicap Trap Shoot as well as the state high school and college trap shoots. Wings Over The Platte is held each March celebrating the return of thousands of cranes and waterfowl to the central Platte River Valley. Activities include guided tours, workshops, hikes, art exhibits, and a banquet. The mission of the Crane Meadows Nature Center, a private, nonprofit organization, is to provide environmental education and outdoor recreation for the public. Nature Center naturalists conduct year-round public programs, hikes, and activities designed to help interpret the natural heritage. Stuhr Museum of the Prairie Pioneer, (308) 381-5316, is located 11 miles north of Doniphan. The 200 acre complex owned by Hall County is anchored by a main building and Gus Fonner Memorial Rotunda, which are open year-round. Railroad Town, open during the summer months, has several century-old homes and shops and a cottage where actor Henry Fonda was born. Fonner Park, (308) 382-4515, located 11 miles north of Doniphan, hosts thoroughbred horse racing every spring on its 5/8 mile track. The facility also includes two arenas (1,000 and 2,500 seats) for a year-round schedule of various shows, exhibits, and conventions. Cultural Activities are provided at the Grand Island Little Theater, Hastings Community Theater, Hastings I-Max Theater, and Hastings Museum. The Doniphan Senior Citizen's Center, (402) 845-6583, provides noon meals five days a week, bingo, crafts, health education programs, card games, monthly covered-dish dinners, bus trips, and special programs.
Two parks, covering 12 acres in Doniphan, include tennis courts, playground equipment, picnic areas, and softball and baseball fields. Facilities and activities within 14 miles include: seven golf courses, three swimming pools, one water park, 22 tennis courts, swimming, fishing and sail boating, hunting, 2 skating rinks, 3 bowling alleys, 11 indoor movie theaters, horseracing, and stockcar racing.
